Dominique Derain
Since his childhood Dominique Derain dreamed of his own wine, but he took it by detour and first he became a barrel maker.
However, he decided to study winemaking in Beaune, gained experience in various wineries for many years, also at Lalou Bize-Leroy, who was involved in the management of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, and was already well known biodynamic winemaker in Burgundy. In 1988, he bought 5.5 hectares of vineyards in the village of Saint-Aubin and started production of authentic wines from Chardonnay, Aligoté and Pinot Noir. Dominique is currently a wine consultant and handed over the care of the vineyards to his colleague Julien Altaber, who also produces wines as Sextant. Their most interesting and prestigious Mercurey vineyard is about 80 years old and wine from this place is truly superb.
