Tomáš Trejbal - Pinot Noir Kalamář 2020
Mělník | red, dry |
Pinot Noir just fits in Bohemia very well.
Did you know that Pinot Noir probably arrived in Bohemia in the 14th century during the reign of Charles IV? And it's still thriving here today. Ours is from Mělník and is distinguished by its elegance, lightness and pleasantly balanced taste. It was aged for a year in oak barrels and bottled without sulphur or filtration.

Tomáš is a real son of Mělník region, his family settled here several generations ago. You can meet his ancestors also on expressive labels of his wine. He started as an importer of wines many years ago and was influenced by few natural winemakers. His wines get better every vintage and the winery shows a lot of potential. Maceration on skins, aging in barrels or amphorae are typical traits of his playful production. All this happens on marl soil called opuka, typical for Mělník region north and northwest from Prague. It gives great saltiness to his wines! Tomáš works with Riesling, Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Kerner, Dornfelder, Blauer Portugieser and Hibernal. Gotta try!
