Immich-Batterieberg - Elbling 2023
Mosel | white, dry |
A forgotten gem from the Mosel, bursting with fresh acidity and mineral purity.
Elbling is an ancient German variety that finds its true home in the Mosel. This wine is light, fresh, and incredibly drinkable, with bright acidity and precise minerality. Citrus and green apple notes add juiciness, while its low alcohol makes it the perfect choice for everyday drinking.
This is heaven for Riesling lovers.
Ungrafted 60+ year old vines on gray slate with quartz, cellars with a tradition of wine documented back to year 908, iconic Batterieberg “monopole” vineyard and honest work of extremely talented natural winemaker Gernot Kollmann - this is a description of Immich-Batterieberg winery in a nutshell. They have been producing Rieslings since 2009 and have very quickly found fans all over the world, which is not surprising - the demand for good natural Mosel wines is incomparably greater than the supply. Gernot Kollmann admires a pure, traditional and non-interventional way of making wine. Fermented spontaneously and mostly in older oak barrels with just a bit of sulfur before bottling, his wines are mostly dry and are lower on alcohol, yet very intense, complex and incredibly elegant.
